How to Harness the Ovulatory Phase of Your Cycle

Summer

Did you know that the ovulatory phase is the second phase of your menstrual cycle? Depending on your hormone health, this is the time that you’re most fertile as the egg is released into one of the fallopian tubes, then travels to the uterus.

That said, today I’m sharing how to cycle sync and harness the ovulatory phase, the second phase of your cycle which takes place after the follicular phase.

Phase 2: Ovulatory phase

Season: Summer

Duration: About 3-4 days

Body Focus: In terms of your body, your physical energy begins surge or you may feel a sense of depletion, along with experiencing food cravings or a headache.

Lifestyle Focus: During this time, a sense of connection with community is at the forefront of this phase. Now is the time to have important conversations with the important people in your life like your partner, boss, etc,. Communication skills are heightened at this time, so make sure to save those important conversions (for instance, asking for a raise), which will allow you to convey your thoughts and opinions more clearly and be more receptive to others. This is also the ideal time to go on first dates, attract a mate, and of course, have sex.

Food Focus: Since your mood is stable and you have plenty of natural energy because of the extra estrogen floating around, stick to lighter grains like corn and quinoa, seeds like almonds, pecans, and pistachios, lamb. Fill up on veggies (fiber to support elimination), like asparagus, brussels sprouts, chard, chicory, dandelion, spinach, and fruit like coconut, raspberry, strawberry, fig, and cantaloupe. Think lightly prepared foods like staying or when appropriate, raw. The key foods during this face are to support vascular and antioxidative wellbeing for your ovaries so you can create the healthiest egg possible.

Exercise Focus: Nows the time to focus on those high-impact workout and group settings. Since you’re energy levels are at their peak, your primed to take on more strenuous exercise like running, weight lifting, hot power yoga, and HITT workouts. Consider group classes as well to harness that sense of connection and community.

A great way to keep track of which phase of your cycle your in is by using an app, my favorite free app is flotracker.

Now that you are more aware of the ovulatory phase of your cycle, what’s one thing you’re going to do to harness this time of the month? Maybe it’s adding more veggies into your diet, trying out a new high intensity fitness class, or finally get around to asking for that raise.

Stay tuned for part 3 on the luteal phase!
