I love positive and inspirational reads. In fact, I like to weave them into my yoga classes and often will share one at the end of class. Inspirational reads, self improvement, and business books seem to be what make up the majority of my bookshelf these days ha ha. Anyways, I stumbled upon this passage called Walk Slowly by Dana Faulds by a fellow yogi, and it hit home, to the point that it gave me the chills when I read it aloud to my yoga class.

Walk Slowly by Dana Faulds

“It only takes a reminder to breathe, a moment to be still, and just like that, something in me settles, softens, makes space for imperfection. The harsh voice of judgment drops to a whisper and I remember again that life isn’t a relay race; that we will all cross the finish line; that waking up to life is what we were born for. As many times as I forget, catch myself charging forward without even knowing where I’m going, that many times I can make the choice to stop, to breathe, and be, and walk slowly into the mystery.”

The breath is such a powerful tool at your side to calm the body and the mind during stressful situations or daily challenges. When you catch your mind wondering into regrets about the past or worries about the future, give yourself a moment to take a conscious breath and be still. The breath will anchor you back into the NOW, reminding you that you are alive. This moment and life is a gift.

During challenging times now more than ever it’s important to continue your daily rituals of self-care, one of which can include slowing down and remembering to simply just be in your body and be with your breath. Focusing even just a few moments on your breath can be such a great way to get out of that stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed mode to feeling calm, grounded, and at ease.
