8 Reasons to Go On a Wellness Retreat
This past weekend, I went on my first wellness retreat on Martha’s Vineyard. A spot opened up last minute for the Yin Yoga Teacher training which I found out about from fellow yoga instructor who knew I was considering Yin Yoga Certification. I’d never done a retreat before, and was a little skeptical about making such a quick decision. My critter brain went off and came up with all sorts of excuses like timing (I am finishing my MBA), money, circumstances and I truth be told, I was a bit nervous to go by myself. However, after quickly thinking it over, I decided to put on my big girl pants to get out of my comfort zone and said YES to this opportunity. Needless to say, the experience went above and beyond my expectations for a retreat and despite that I didn’t feel that it was the best time, that meant it was even more so the best time that my body, mind, and soul needed to unplug and restore. So if you’ve been questioning booking a retreat or something special for yourself that you know will nourish you in some sort, I hope this post gives you the extra nudge to SAY YES to self ;)
Below are 8 reasons to say yes:
Practicing Yoga Regularly
Typical wellness retreats offer optional opportunities to get on your mat daily. The more frequently you practice, the better you will feel mentally, physically and emotionally.
Meditate Regularly
You will likely have the opportunity to opt into a guided meditation practice or be able to practice solo in your free time. On a retreat, it feels more natural to breathe and be present in the moment.
Digital Detox
Keep your phone aside and give yourself this time for a digital detox. It’s so important to take time away from the constant need to feel connected for FOMO (Fear of missing out). It feels good to unplug.
Eat Well
Eating well will likely be made easy if you’re on an all-inclusive retreat. You’ll be able to indulge in all sorts of healthy creations without having to do the work. You may even go home with new recipes, ideas or inspiration.
Relax and De-Stress
Retreats are for relaxing and de-stressing, not feeling the constant need to do things to be productive like you may feel at home. Take this time to kick back and enjoy being present.
Gain New Perspective
Oftentimes when you step back from your norm and get outside of your comfort zone, new ideas and a fresh perspective to perhaps your creative side rise to the surface. This is the perfect chance to step back, grow and learn.
Make New Friends
As an adult, you may find it more challenging to make new friends. Going on a retreat with like-minded people is a great way to connect with new people from around the world.
You Deserve It
It’s easy to make an excuse like it’s not the right time, you don’t have enough money, or you plain right don’t deserve to treat yourself. When excuses rise, remember that it is so important to nourish yourself so that you can nourish others. If you really want something, go for it and see what unfolds.
