Embrace the Winter Solstice 2017

winter

December 21, 2017 marks the winter solstice - the shortest, darkest day of the year. Winter alone can inspire both joy and stress with the busy holiday season and year coming to an end. And let’s face it, these long dark days of winter can lead to physical fatigue, hibernation, and stagnation. The Winter Solstice marks and symbolizes an invitation to dig into the parts of ourselves that don’t always get enough light or love.

So what exactly is the winter solstice?
The winter solstice is a time to go inward with introspection and intention as we honor the longest night of the year. In comparison, six months ago, we celebrated the Summer Solstice, which marked the energetic climax of the year - a time of going outward with force compassion, and purpose.  It’s important to recognize and honor this shift in energy that these dark days bring as we slowly begin to transition back into longer days of light.

Embrace the Winter
This winter, embrace the change in energy and honor the light and love, as well as the dark and shadows that winter brings. Take extra time-out of your busy schedule finding something that allows you to slow down, unplug and restore. Whether it be a grounding yoga or meditation practice or cozying by the fireplace with a movie, find something that brings you peace and joy. Lastly, take time to reflect and find a sense of solace in solitude as we hibernate from the cold and darkness that winter brings.
